betray
1. betray sb/sth (to sb) to give imformtion about sb/sth to an enemy 出卖,泄露
E.g. In order to make money, he betrayed his best friends.
2. to hurt sb who trusts you ,especially by not being loyal or faithful to them 辜负,对…不忠
3. to ignore your principles or benefits in order to archive sth or gain an advantage for yourself 背叛(原则或信仰)
4. betray sth/ yourself to tell somebody or make them aware of pieces of information ,a feeling, etc.,usually without meaning to (无意中)泄露信息,泄露情感
If people, things, or situation is formidable, you feel fear and respect for them, because they are impressive or powerful, or because they seem very difficult. 可怕的,令人敬畏的,难对付的
E.g. a formidable opponent 难以应付的对手
. a formidable list of qualification 令人敬畏的资历
. formidable obstacles 重重障碍
to produce a book , list, report, etc. by bringing together different items, articles, songs, etc.
